One specific pheromone, androstenone , is known to be used in perfumes to increase attraction. Androstenone is considered a male pheromone that can elicit different responses in both men and women. Studies investigating the effectiveness of pheromones:

Wyrzykowska et al. (2003) : This study examined the effects of androstenone on women and found that women exposed to this pheromone reported increased perceptions of attractiveness and dominance in men.
Cutler, Friedmann, and McCoy (1998) : This study showed that men who used a pheromone-laced aftershave product experienced a significant increase in social behavior, such as more frequent intimate encounters with women.
